I’ve just come back from seeing Avatar and it’s a great heroic story as long as you’re on the Indian’s side rather than the cowboys (which you should be anyway).
And yes the special effects set a new level of achievement. I remember being in the cinema for the 2nd Star Wars film and the battle scenes are visually overwhelming in that there is just so much happening. Here, in Avatar you forget it’s computer graphics and enjoy the wonder of the rain-forest that’s just so alive.
Some of the reviews have been a bit down on the plot but then that’s the male reviewers not liking the emotional love story and that is one of the things that director James Cameron does well as his previous film Titanic demonstrated.
This is a film you can love for the special effects and love for the emotional story telling.
And love for the inspirational story of finding what is important to you, what gives you meaning and purpose and doing whatever is necessary to love and protect that.
